But, I’m happy to report that FiiO did a great job here with the design of the housing and indeed of the cable too. From lower to upper mids, every ounce of detail from note attack to decay is captured, with emphasis on clarity, transparency and speed, glorious speed. The single-ended 3.5mm jack, Y-split and MMCX connectors look well-built, and there’s an audible, satisfying click when connecting to the P1. The Fiio FH5 is a 4-driver hybrid IEM (1 DD+3BA) which retails for $260. It’s easy to dismiss the new kid doing new things. Today we have Full HD, 4K, and 8K televisions, which, when I’m watching WWE, enables me to focus onto the wrestlers’ sweat beads and body hair. They look professional and no-nonsense, like they came to kick ass and leave. Note hits are round, with adequate punch and slam in attack, before fluttering away Taylor Swiftly and leaving a trail of wind. And speaking of the cable, FiiO has done a bang-up job here. But as we’ve learnt all our lives, it’s what’s inside that counts. Not only is the FH5 FiiO’s current flagship, but it’s also what I would consider to be an honest flagship design and, to me, it sits right up there with competing products that cost many hundreds of dollars more. Overall The F9 has more balance in this area. The earpieces are hand-polished and take on a mirror finish. Being able to easily distinguish which is which is great, but FiiO took this one step further and did something similar on the actual housing of the IEMs too. It’s quite a complete set for on-the-go, although the case should really be bigger. I think this is a very power hungry IEM for it to be driven to its fullest potential (my wife has a LG smartphone I think it was the G6). Also included in the accessory set is a beautiful (but small) faux leather case, a matching copper cable and an impressive set of ear tips. It doesn’t go deep, but does great with what they have. So I got myself the EarStudio ES100. It’s the real thing with no gimmicks, and Tin HiFi proudly shows you the way to cost-effective aural bliss. Let me add, that all my files are replaygained, which reduces volume by ~6-10 dB(A) on modern rock/pop albums. The last bunch of silicone tips are the Bass tips, which would work to either elevate the bass region slightly, or suppress the upper registers a bit. The FiiO FH5 is a 2018 in-ear monitor flagship and have a hefty pricetag of $250. The P1 sounds underpowered from them (ie. The F9-series, on the other hand, sounded much brighter in comparison, and as a result I perceive them to sound quite artificial. . When all is said and done, despite those sonic flaws, I still think FiiO did a reasonably good job here, and if you prefer a darker signature, then the FH5 could very well work out quite well for you. So, that being said, with reference to using the Spiral Dot tips on the FH5 I’d say that these tips unfortunately do more harm than good as far as the sound signature is concerned. Its like an amp, but it also pushes instrument separation, while improving treble, mids and bass quality, making everything sound much clearer and positional. On the flip side, the FH5 greatly reduces the chances of that happening, but at the same time it also means that there can be a lack of air in vocals as well as a reduction in that lovely shimmering effect of cymbals. Basically, it is sturdy and massive. I’ve ordered the P1 already, but after reading your review I feel like ordering it again . And then we get to the final 3 pairs of eartips which are made of a memory-foam type of material. But, for the FH5 that 40mW is more than enough. Triggered by a blind earphone buy that went horribly awry, I have since bought and sold my way up the ladder in relentless pursuit of the perfect chain. Critical listening was done after 50 hours of burn-in to loosen up the planar driver, but who knows? That matches the amount of bass, that a good speaker produce in a living room. FH5 though, covers the technicalities well, and surpasses the P1 in imaging precision and stage height, giving a more fish-bowl like stage presentation than P1’s flat plains. They were a tad more expensive then the Tin t2s but there was heaps of reviews on the Australian distributor's amazon stores that made me reconsider them (Ear pieces looking used, arriving damaged, red ear piece repeatedly reported to not be working etc).
